What lies behind closed doors ....

I've always looked at doors as the entrance into peoples lives. When I see a door that catches my eyes, I start wondering who lives behind that door and what kind of interior theme they have going on. Once you go through one you get transported
into a world that is different from the outside. They are an essential part of any building as they connect rooms and spaces together.

You find doors everywhere. All over the world. They can be indoors or outdoors. But I find that when designing interiors, most of the time the client doesn't take into account the doors within their spaces. Doors can easily be changed or given a new lease of life. Just a simple lick of paint on a door or two can bring a room, space or an entire home or office alive.

There are all kinds of doors - the most common type of materials they can be made out of are wood, steel and fiberglass.

Also there are different designs for indoor doors. You've got folding doors, sliding doors, doors with carvings etc. When choosing a door, keep in mind the structure and design of the building itself.

Talk about upcycling and saving the environment,  below are a few doors that have found alternative uses. With a little bit of love and care they have been reborn.

I did a piece on Jib doors a while back which you might like to read (http://dezinekonnections.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/oh-jibber-jabber-its-jib-door.html) as well as another one doorknobs on (http://dezinekonnections.blogspot.co.uk/search/label/Doorknobs).
}My take on doors ~ They come in various sizes, shapes, material and colour and the possibilities are endless. Try upcycling because it's very green and sustainable.~

  1. This is an awesome article. This just goes to show that doors are not just for protection any more. They can also be used for aesthetic purposes.
