Detola and Geek on the road - Group lampshade making workshop in Cambridgeshire

Last Monday night, I taught a group lampshade making workshop in the picturesque village of Great Chishill (nr. Royston) in Cambridgeshire. Sounds a bit like the beginning of a "romantic novel"). LOL !!! I love living in & exploring the English countryside (can't you tell).

I loved every minute of this "home-based" evening workshop which was for a group of ladies. And oh what a fun & giggly bunch they were.

All the ladies brought along their own fabric/material which comprised of different textures, designs & colours. One of the ladies upcycled an old laundry basket as her base material (I highly do not recommend using materials other than light to medium-weight cotton / linen fabric when making a lamp shade for the very first time).

Will share some of the lampshades "in situ" later. I love seeing how a bespoke lampshade can pull a room / space together.

If you are not able to attend one of my workshop's in person or want to give it a go by yourself, grab one of my lampshade craft kits online instead.

Detola And Geek On the Road: Susie's Vintage & Handmade Pop Up Fair Feb 2016

A couple of Sundays ago, I attended my first handmade fair for 2016.

A totally new handmade fair for me, as well as venue, and I can't sing their praises enough. I am quite selective at which fairs I attend as some of them are not always cracked up to be all that (if you know what I mean)!

It was organised by Susie of Susie's Vintage Warehouse (which is based in Halls Green, Hertfordshire).

The venue itself - Nobel School, Stevenage - was just the right venue. Ample parking, very helpful & accommodating host, fab variety of stall holders & loads of footfall. It was also well publicised. Now that is how to pull off a "handmade & vintage fair"

An you will be please to know that I will be attending the next one. For all the details please click the link >>>>>>>>>>>>> Detola & Geek on Facebook

Detola and Geek is really looking forward to the next on in April. Can't wait.

If you can't make, no need to panic as you can always buy online :

This will be my first time selling, in person, at this Hertfordshire Pop Up Fair, hosted by Susie's Vintage Warehouse, so fingers crossed and all ;-). Really looking forward to it.

It is being held in a high school hall so there will be loads of other stall holders there too selling both vintage and handmade products.

Lampshade Making workshop by Detola and Geek

Here are some of the pictures from my last lampshade making workshop about 2 weeks ago at Hearts and Craft in Walkern Village, Hertfordshire

A couple of the lovely ladies I taught how to make lampshades at my last workshop. As you can see they really got stuck in!

One of  my students decided to add a bit of trim to jazz up her toadstool print lampshade

I think it's safe to see they were happy with their own professionally finished handmade lampshades. (someones camera-shy)

Will be releasing more dates soon at 'Hearts and Craft' in Walkern, Hertfordshire as well as some other venues (possibly in London) in the very near future.

I also teach individual / 1-2-1s and lampshade making parties like an alternative hen night/ birthday celebration / gift for her etc. If you are interested in hosting a party where I come to you please click here for more info https://www.detolaandgeek.com/workshops
